Here we go again. The New Orleans Saints are faced with yet another injury to their star wide receiver.
Michael Thomas is dealing with what head coach Dennis Allen called “a little bit of a hamstring issue.” After looking good in camp, many were optimistic Thomas could return to form. That hope shouldn’t be abandoned unless this news gets worse, as Thomas will be a vital intermediate threat for the Saints. Of course, hamstring injuries are frightening due to their tendency to linger, so perhaps we should be on wait and see mode with Thomas.
In the meantime, short-term gains in practice attention can parlay itself into long-term wins for the rest of us. Rookie Chris Olave would be New Orleans’ top option if Thomas were to go down for an extended period of time, and his deep ball prowess makes him an immediate contributor. Holding off on Thomas bets is fine, but waiting on Olave’s Offensive Rookie of the Year odds (DraftKings, +1000) may end up backfiring.
