As we wrap up Week 10, let this serve as your reminder that there are only eight more weeks of AFC West football. At least we can all rejoice knowing that now. Consider it a win, unlike what three of these teams give us every week.
Chiefs keep on rolling
We are running out of things to say about the Kansas City Chiefs. Everyone was concerned about the offense during the offseason. Not a problem. Everyone was concerned about how Patrick Mahomes would perform without Tyreek Hill. Not a problem. Everyone was concerned about how the defense could step up while the offense took a step back. Not a problem. Everyone was concerned about how they could keep up with the division’s other three teams. Not a problem. They haven’t been in danger all season long and just traded for Kadarius Toney, who turned in a great performance on Sunday. Big problem, for the rest of the league.
Sensing a theme? Maybe instead of worrying about a team like Kansas City, we should just wait and see, since they have been there and done that. People were questioning the Toney trade, but that now looks like a heist for Andy Reid’s team. They lost the turnover battle, time of possession, and even fell victim to some trickery from Jacksonville, but still won. They’ve earned the benefit of the doubt.
The Chargers’ injuries are a major issue
As discussed at great length on the broadcast, the Chargers gave everything they had in this game. Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t enough. After sustaining significant injuries in the receiver room, the defensive room, and just about anywhere else you want to look, it’s clear that these Chargers are limping to the finish line. With that in mind, they still might make the playoffs. That’s impressive. They simply ran out of gas. This team always seems to be ravaged by injuries which is a shame, making it more and more likely we’ll never see them reach their true potential.
Broncos get back to reality
Should we send the Broncos back to London? It’s a strong possibility. The last time we saw Nathaniel Hackett’s team, they were pulling off an impressive win in London. Conventional wisdom would say that the team should be able to carry that momentum, seemingly having figured out some of the problems they faced earlier in the year. Russell Wilson looked good across the pond and once the Broncos got back to the states, they’d be able to make a run. Wrong. They traveled to Tennessee and put in an entire week’s worth of work to score 10 points. Brutal. Back to square one now.
Are the Raiders tanking?
Obviously the Raiders intended to field a really good team this year so they aren’t blatantly tanking. Although, maybe they are now? The quarterback is crying postgame, the star receiver is calling out teammates for not caring, and the owner has to keep meeting with the new head coach following these awful losses. It’s even more bizarre once you consider that this Raiders team is actually more functional than last year’s group. The only scandal this year might just be the money the players and Josh McDaniels are stealing from owner Mark Davis after turning in half-hearted performances every week. The worst part of it all? This will probably be the same coaching staff and largely the same team next season. Sorry Raiders fans, you really don’t deserve this.
