The NFL's One True King
Derrick Henry may just be the scariest player in the NFL, but his rise to stardom came long before his breakout 2019 season in Nashville. He's known for terrorizing defenses across the league, but he's been doing it a lot longer than that. Henry is the all-time leading high school leading rusher. Period. Henry carried the ball 1,397 times for 12,124 yards and scored over 150 touchdowns in four years. No one has ever rushed for more yards in high school.
While Henry seems like the type of guy you'd want on your side in all situations, he was a "Grandma's Boy," as she raised him, inspiring him to pursue education. While he is mostly known as "King Henry" now, his original nickname, courtesy of his grandmother was "Shocka." Henry supposedly surprised the whole family when he was born, as his mother was 15 and his father was only 16 at the time of his birth. It's the reason he sports a "Shocka" tattoo on his chest to honor his grandmother. The University of Alabama may also want to thank Grandma Henry for convincing Derrick to stay in Tuscaloosa since he committed to the University of Georgia and later began to seek a transfer until he was convinced otherwise.
