A Blessing In Disguise
Eddie Jackson has made a living off of exploding to the football and erasing windows downfield. Playing centerfield, free safety in a single-high defense, is a perfectly curated role for his skill set.
He has a broken leg to thank.
Jackson was an early-round talent until he suffered a broken leg in the fall of his final collegiate season. As a result, he was not able to participate in the combine, and NFL teams grew wary of the risk he presented. However, much like top prospects falling to the end of the first round, this slide allowed Jackson to fall into a perfect schematic fit, rather than the first available team with a need at safety.
Then defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was one of the most respected coaches in the game and allowed Jackson to be in the best position possible to win. As the great start to his career shows, it was a match made in heaven, even if the road to get to the Windy City was rather painful.
