Justin Herbert is a certified leader of men
When you look at THE HERBERT FILE, it’s laughable that the narrative leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft was questions about Justin Herbert’s leadership. What’s not even listed is that he was his named first team all-state and Southwest Conference high school offensive player of the year.
Shouldn’t that have answered any leadership questions?
Or the fact the he started at Oregon as a freshman, came back from a fractured femur in high school and a broken collarbone in college – doesn’t that confirm toughness and leadership? But you know what’s life is like in the social media era: a spark becomes a flame which becomes a fire and common sense gets burned up.
Well, the kid who supposedly wasn’t a great leader is poised to lead the Chargers, who drafted Herbert with the sixth pick, to their first-ever Super Bowl victory. And Herbert is going to do it his way.
"I think the most important quality of a leader is being themselves. Being genuine and not trying to be someone that you're not. For me, it was important to be the same, steady guy all throughout the time.
“Not get too high, not get too low. I think it's really important to be able to address your team and be genuine, because when things are good you need to be the same guy, and when things are bad, you need to be the same guy, too.”
That guy is liable to go down in the record books with guys named Brady, Rodgers and Manning. Apparently they couldn’t lead either.
