Patrick Mahomes doesn’t seem like a man with a care in the world. And why should he? He’s married his college sweetheart, welcomed his first child, and signed the mega contract - $503 million over 10 years – for which all other QB deals will be measured against.
What’s to worry about?
How about this. Whenever Tom Brady (and Aaron Rodgers) decides to retire for good, Mahomes will not only be the standard bearer for his position, but he will also be the forerunner of the new breed of QB.
Mahomes can work out of the pocket but he’s most dangerous when on the move, throwing across his body, using arm angles that seemingly require Tommy John surgery, and running when all else fails.
Oh yes, did we mention that like all the great quarterbacks in the NFL, but especially Brady and Rodgers, Mahomes processes defenses in an eye flutter. He beats defenses with his mind and body.
How will he handle that burden? How will he not let the pressure of being the best in the game and the one with the beaucoup contract make this a job without joy?
The pressure surely will be on Mahomes this season. The Chiefs were upset at home by the Bengals in the AFC Championship game. Then they traded away one of the most electrifying players in the game – WR Tyreek Hill.
Patrick Mahomes is the face of the chiefs. Soon he will be the face of the league. What’s worry about?
Oh, we almost forgot to mention one of the toughest dudes in the NFL, #87 Tight End Travis Kelce. For now he holds a couple of funky NFL records:
He's the 1st NFL player to have 4 Touch Down catches of less than 10 yards in one game!
+ TE Kelce tied the KC Chiefs' single-game record for most touchdowns by a pass catcher.
At the rate he is performing, we'll see many more records broken by Travis Big Yeti Kelce (yes... his nickname is Big Yeti!) :)
