There is no middle ground. Either you love the Dallas Cowboys, or you hate them.
From the moniker, America’s Team, to playing on Thanksgiving Day, to the cheerleaders, to
brash Dallas owner Jerry Jones, to the state-of-the art stadium known as Jerry’s World, to being
the most valuable sports franchise in the world, the Cowboys are a lightning rod.
As far as Jones and Cowboys fans are concerned, lightning hasn’t struck in far too long.
For a team which has spared no expense to reach its lofty status, Dallas hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 1995. That also was the last time the Cowboys played in the NFC Championship game.
The Jets have played in two conference championship games. In the NFC, the hated, dysfunctional Commanders and inept Detroit Lions are the only other two franchises not to have made it to the doorstep of the Super Bowl.
Dallas has no excuse. And the time for excuses is over.
Jones, who bought the team in 1989, turned 80 in October. He knows that no one has ever defeated Father Time.
“Well, I need to win another Super Bowl,” Jones told reporters in July.
Half the nation agrees. The other half, well, you know.
